Natural Light and its Importance: Bringing the Outside
The primary aim when Sarah initiated the renovation of her garage was to make it as bright as possible by letting in as much natural light as possible. Because the garage originally was dark and enclosed, it allowed minimal light to seep into the space. Sarah was aware that she needed windows and skylights in the place to make the space look brighter, open, and more connected to the outdoors.

In doing this, Sarah installed windows throughout the walls that were placed in strategic points for cross-ventilation and a better flow of light. The skylights, however, made all the difference. Positioned above the main living area, they let a huge amount of natural light in during the day and provided warmth in the atmosphere. The light flooding the space made it feel less like a basement or garage and more like a loft or modern apartment.
Besides aesthetic enhancement, natural light also presented a practical advantage. It lessened Sarah’s reliance on artificial lighting, which cuts down on energy consumption. The bright, airy feeling that comes with abundant light also contributed positively to Sarah’s mood and well-being. Natural light improves mental health through its provision of a feeling of connectedness to the outdoors. To Sarah, this created a space that was peaceful and uplifting.
