The Unexpected Early Arrival
James prepared for that perfect moment—the door opens, in walks Sarah, and he smirks big and says “Surprise!” His eyes expect her to brighten and widen with her smile because she will finally see everything that he prepared for a romantic setting. It’s going to be one to remember for a lifetime. That is, unless fate has other things planned for Sarah.
There he went-frozen in his tracks-in total motion hearing the unmistakable tapping sound that proved a woman had walked in – her heels tapping on her hardwood. No sooner had he begun the adjustment when Sarah stood poised to emerge through the doorway. Which wouldn’t be for an hour. James was taken fully unaware, his well-researched second of preparation utterly turned up over his head.
Sarah stood in the doorway for a moment scanning the room. She showed surprise, but not at all in the manner he had envisioned. He remained there, flustered and uncertain, trying to play catch-up on this suddenly changed plan. But Sarah, ever the gracious and understanding woman, smiled and said, “What is all this?
” Her warmth melted the tension in the air, and James exhaled, realizing that even though things hadn’t gone according to plan, the evening could still be special.
