Recreating Space: The Secret Room Transforms into a Historical Exhibition
During that summer, I made it a point to prod my urge, time and again, to use that piece of space – once marginalized in time – to commemorate history in its manner of having a great storytelling tale. It was to be small-sized and not only had those rare treasures but also recalled through the walls, the life and love that lived within it. I wanted the visitor to walk in that room and feel the history, love, loss, and adventure echoing through time.

To create this experience, I involved local artisans and historians within my process. I carefully curated the room with plaques and context, telling the story of the explorer and the love letters, and explaining the importance of each artifact. Hanging aged photographs on the walls and lighting up the rooms with soft lights created warmth and invited guests into a homey atmosphere. I even invited community people to share their stories to foster a collective shared history evocative of connection.
