Role of History: Why Places Like This Hold Power

One of the most attractive sides of any asylum experience is how old the whole activity is. An asylum is not just some abandoned building; it’s a place where real people used to live and meet their death, suffering and dying in it, sometimes. Torture is standing in those walls and unbearable sufferings of people inside that asylum, and this place will have a certain power whether you believe in paranormal phenomena or not.

It made me think of the people who would have walked those corridors in years long gone: the patients, locked away and, all too often, forgotten by their families, left to suffer through practices now outdated and oft cruel. It made me think of the doctors and nurses working there, doing what they knew, which was good, even if the methods they employed were harsh by today’s standards. The asylum was an area of grave suffering, and this energy is still palpable in the air.
