Around 3 a.m., I felt that the hardest part of the night was at its peak. I was sitting in the main office when, suddenly, the temperature felt like it dropped dramatically. The air was so cold that I could see my breath, and this was at the time when outside it was pretty warm. Then, without warning, the door to the office slammed shut with a deafening bang. I rushed forward to open it, but it would not budge as if something was holding it shut. My heart was pounding as I pulled at the handle, and just when I had all but decided that it wasn’t going to open, the door swung open by itself.

I stepped into the hallway, my flashlight flickered on and off, casting erratic shadows on the walls. My hands were shaking as I tried to steady the beam, and it went out finally, plunging me into total darkness. I was standing there for what must have been an eternity as nothing seemed to be happening, before I finally got the flashlight working again. I had lost my nerves by then but still, it was several hours until dawn.
