Reflection: Was the Asylum Really Haunted?
It’s almost eight months since I visited the asylum, but thinking about my whole experience there, I remain unsure whether it was just my imagination or something else. Was the asylum haunted by the spirits of the souls which had long suffered there, or was it a product of an overactive imagination in a very oppressive environment? At any rate, I do know is that the asylum held an energy about it that was very different from any place I’ve ever been to. Whether it was “haunted” or not, there was something seriously unsettling about being inside those walls, something that really stood out in my mind afterward.

There’s no doubt that the asylum has a tragic past, and history seemed to seep into every corner of the building. The strange events I experienced could be caused by a combination of environmental factors and psychological influence, but there were moments—I still can’t explain the door slamming shut or the temperature drop—to make me wonder if the stories of hauntings are more than just rumors.
