As this event develops, it would be important that the police and child care bodies handle the situation sensitively. What the little girl says, “Mommy does not want me home,” should be given much attention. Beyond looking into the child’s immediate safety, efforts should be made to look into why there is a problem in the family.

Meaningful change can be observed if engaging mental health professionals to administer assessments and counseling for the family is possible. Therapy may specifically be offered to the mother, and it may focus on the development or prevalence of some form of mental health disorder and/or substance abuse or even troubled relationships.
