The Birth of the Unthinkable
The puppies were finally born after the painful last push. No sooner had they come out than something odd filled the air. The rain seemed to ease, and the stormy clouds pulled apart a little to let a feeble gleam of moonlight rest on the newborns. When the dog looked down, he shuddered.

They weren’t ordinary puppies. Tiny forms shimmered as if covered with stardust and intricate glowing patterns danced over their fur. Some softly emitted a blue glow while others in shades of gold, green, or violet. But the most alien feature was the delicate wing-like structures folded along their backs. As if they belonged in a dream world and not here in this cold, broken one.
