Secrets of the Attic: A Life Revisited
In the attic Mark found a dusty box. What was written on this is “Family Treasures”. Inside, he would see old photographs, the exchange of love letters his parents had written to each other for years, and sketches on paper that he was just beginning to remember himself doodling as a little child. With each he picked up, the memory surged back: his mom in the backyard teaching him to ride a bike, and how his dad cheered him in during his high school graduation ceremony. Mark sat down among the dusty relics, overcome with emotion he hadn’t allowed himself for years.

At that moment he realized how much the house had represented. It was not made of bricks and mortar—there was a legacy hidden behind those walls. All that his parents had built they would close the door for if they sold it there. What hurt more at that moment was realizing he had left his father sitting in a nursing home when he was forced to take away the legacy from these walls.
